Afternoon at the Movies - 2001: A Space Odyssey

Afternoon at the Movies - 2001: A Space Odyssey In-Person

This 1968 science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick, is noted for its scientifically accurate depiction of spaceflight, pioneering special effects, and ambiguous, ambitious themes like the explanation of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence and the possibility of extra-terrestrial life. Kubrick avoided conventional cinematic and narrative techniques; dialogue is used sparingly, and there are long sequences accompanied only by music. Shunning the convention that major film productions should feature original music, 2001: A Space Odyssey takes for its soundtrack numerous works of classical music. Kubrick said “If you understood the film completely then we failed. We wanted to raise more questions than we answered”.

Learn about these interesting facts and many more from the movie guy as we talk about Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" and then show the movie.
