“On the Waterfront” contains what is considered one of the greatest American acting performances in a Motion Picture. The movie stars Marlon Brando in his Oscar winning role as Terry Malloy, a New Jersey longshoreman who decides to testify against the mob. The film was largely seen as director Elia Kazan’s justification for naming names to the House Unamerican Activities Commission in the 50s. Shot on location in Hoboken, New Jersey, the film won 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture and is the screen debut of Eva Marie Saint who also won an Oscar. The critical acclaim and popularity of the film caused real reform on the Hoboken docks of the longshoreman union.
